I’ve never seen this movie, but I just looked up a synopsis. And I’d be pretty down with this actually.
And you could keep it fairly close to the movie if you wanted too. Erik is hunting a Nazi war criminal who is responsible for killing his family, Magda could be his wife who committed suicide (because I’m a terrible person), Charles would be the Nazi’s grandson, and Raven obviously his sister. Charles could also be gay, and Erik would have to deal with mild homophobia, but ends up deciding that it doesn’t matter.(or change that and have him more accepting right off, either or) Anyways so Erik would befriend the two to get close to their Nazi grandpa, but ends up actually becoming friends with them for real, and they could travel around while bonding over their mutant powers actually, but all the while Erik is still planning to take out their grandpa. And the two eventually find out what he’s planning and are shocked, but don’t like their grandfather anyways, for obvious reasons. And I don’t know about the end, but Charles could not condone killing even if the gramps is a bad man(exactly like how Charles was towards Shaw) and then maybe they end up killing him together at the end instead, because I don’t see how Erik wouldn’t have the resolve to do it. (unless it’s because of his wife that he can’t kill and Charles does it for him, like in the film, which could work too, but idk that doesn’t seem very Erik to me) Anyways, and ultimately Erik could end up falling for either one of the siblings and/or just carry on with his life, with revenge for his family complete.
So after thinking about this for a while, I think it has good AU fic potential. And actually I really want to see this film now.
Has anyone actually seen Walk on Water? And if so, how was it? Because while the synopsis seems interesting and multilayered, I feel like there’s a chance the actual film could be terrible.

Who wrote this, I bet Spifty wrote this.
Regardless I strongly agree.
I don’t even know what Fox is doing anymore.

I would attended Erik Lensherr’s lectures like nobody’s business.
But seriously, seeing Charles start up his school, I am hoping this will be in, well probably not DOFP because who the hell knows where that story is going at this point, but the one after that. And I highly doubt Mags will teach, but stranger things have happened I suppose.

THE FUCK IS THIS?
Is this secret implying Erik raped Magda?
Or that…something….non-consensual occurred?
I don’t.
What.
Is
this?
No really.
What is this.
I’m fucking speechless.

I read this a little bit ago and just did not understand at all.
I have no idea.

Actually, I think it’s saying the opposite: that Erik is very like Roman Polanski (both survived the Holocaust, and both lost their wife and child), except that Erik is not a rapist.
From the wikipedia article:

In 1969, Polanski’s pregnant wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by members of the Manson Family while staying at Polanski’s Benedict Canyon home above Los Angeles.

I don’t know that I agree with the confession, just wanted to point out that it’s not saying what you think it’s saying. I think.

Ohhhh, I honestly had no idea what the confession was trying to say. So thanks, this sorta makes sense now.
Except that yeah, I still disagree with this confession wholeheartedly.

Except for how at the end of FC, he hasn’t become Shaw at all? Again, as with most FC-related confessions, I’m only arguing from the FC point of view because we don’t yet know whether these movies are meant to tie in with the others, but… Erik hasn’t become Shaw at all. He doesn’t threaten other mutants into joining him; when Charles says no, he accepts that. He doesn’t have some big grandiose plan to take over the world; he wants to protect other mutants, because humans have shown that they will kill mutants who have been helping them. He doesn’t torture mutants in an attempt to make them “stronger”. Hell, by the end of FC, we don’t even know if he plans to take any direct action against humans. “They’ve played their card; now we get ready to play ours” is awfully vague. Considering there are arcs in the comics where Magneto just wants mutants to have a separate home apart from humans, there’s no guarantee that the mutant card will be “and then we attack the humans”.
Erik’s suspicion of and actions against humans have always been to protect other mutants and himself. Shaw’s motivations were pretty much completely the opposite.
And can we stop fucking comparing a Holocaust survivor to a man who worked with the Nazis, for fuck’s sake.

Rebooting, you are my new best friend.
Seriously, everyone, how many times do we have to have the same exact conversation?

As long as *ahem* CERTAIN PEOPLE (certain, creepily-obsessed with a particular celebrity people) insist on having it.

Not gonna lie, I seriously had to weigh up my desire to point out the wrong in this confession with my ability to deal with them before I posted.

This commentary is my new favourite thing.
Nothing like repeating conversations though. Even cartoons Magneto (and I’m sure comic Magneto) isn’t Shaw at all. And even if Magneto does some very questionable things sometimes, it remains that where his ideals and his goals come from are a completely different, and actually understandable, place than Shaw’s. You can disagree with Magneto all you want, but that doesn’t make him Shaw.
Out of all the times this conversation has gone back and forth on FC Confessions, by now I think people who don’t understand Magneto just don’t want too and aren’t even trying. It’s not that hard, it doesn’t mean you have to agree, but whatever.
